M&W - EDRG-3321 Ch.6 Traditional Literature

Today in class we went over chapter six and I learned a lot. Traditional stories about moral and values. I enjoy reading stories like these, such as "The Three Little Bears". Some of these stories entertain, teach values and the foundations of cultural beliefs to the young. When children hear and read traditional stories it can provide them with a fascinating glimpse of a particular culture as well as teach them about values and codes of behavior. Some of the language patterns and themes are often referred to in everyday life. Traditional stories all come with a plot, a setting, characterization, style, theme, motifs and variants.

This chapter also discussed about building a classroom library. When building a teacher should build the library accordingly to age appropriate and interest. I've started to buy books for all ages from five years to twelve years of age, that way when I build my library according to the grade I'll be ahead one step and have some books. Remember it's never to early!

  1. I like the idea of the students learning other cultures. With our communities becoming more diverse, it is important to integrate differnt types of books that reflect a variety of cultures. I also have started by own classroom library of books, and I want to include a variety of cultures to my own list.
