What is a picture book? It is the marriage of literature and fine arts into a unique literary form which is tha art extending and animating the story in ways that vivify, quicken and vitalize the experience of reading.
We discussed chapter seven which was all about picture books. The main thing that I gathered and never really thought about was how the illustrator of each book has a meaning for the colors and the different styles of painting they use for each picture that is drawn or painted. Each book has its own art and design. The main idea of the picture is to throw the light onto words. Its to give meaning to the words so the person reading can better understand it with the picture. Understanding picture books makes more sense once we understand how they develop as a form.
I also learned that Randolph Caldecott is considered the father of picture books. It is important for techers to lead students to books.
