What is Guided Reading?
Guided reading is reading with children. The goal of Guided Reading is to teach students to independently use reading strategies at their instructional level. It is a bridge between shared reading and independent reading. Guided Reading provides opportunitites for teachers to work with small groups of children on text that closely matches the children's needs, abilities, and interests. The teacher acts as a facilitator, using prompts and questioning strategies to guide children to comprehension. Using a book introduction, the teacher sets the scene, arouses student interest and engages children in discussion. In Guided Reading everything is learned within the context of a book.
This guided reading website has a lot of reading information but it is very useful. It expalins the different teaching methods and classroom activities from grades K-6. Each grade level has steps to follow such as:
1. Title: Read, Cover, Remember, & Retell
2. Title: Guided Reading Lesson Outline
3. Fluency mini-lessons

Evelyn Bunting born 1928, is an author with more than 250 books. Her books are diverse in age groups, from picture books to chapter books, and topic, ranging from Thanksgiving to riots in Los Angeles. She has won several awards. She went to school in Ireland and grew up with storytelling. In Ireland, “There used to be Shanachies… the shanachie was a storyteller who went from house to house telling his tales of ghosts and fairies, of old Irish heroes and battles still to be won. "Pookie At The Seaside" BY: Ivy Wallace Ivy Lilian Wallace born on October 7, 1915 was a British artist, actress and authoress, best known for writing the Pookie series of illustrated children's stories. She was born in Grimsby. She started drawing as a child with the encouragement of her parents, who recognised her talents and thought that she might become an artist.
