EDRG 3344 - Chapter 4

Today in class I enjoyed working in groups learning how to make a circular story. It got us involved working together and deciding on how to fit a noun with a objective that made sense.

A circular story is when you have the subject that has an objective and he/she will get a noun. The cirular story begins and then ends with the noun. You can use a circular story in the classroom dividing everyone into groups and have one group began the story and so on and so on and the last group will end the story but will refer back to the begining of the story.

A teacher can make reading fun in many different ways such as by acting out the characters with a puppet show and bringing in items that refer to the story. Also each individual student can bring in a item that refers to their story and then have the other students guess what the story may be about. Teachers can also bring in popcorn and flashlights to make the story more exciting and or relaxing. Each grade level will be different because of age appropriate levels. Teachers are what make the difference come out of the classroom and the way a teacher develops her daily lessons will affect the students ability to learn with fun or a better way of understanding.

  1. You have great ideas on how to make reading fun for the students. My favorite is the popcorn and the flashlight idea. This will make a fun enviroment for reading. Teachers are the ones that can make a difference on how the students attitude is towards reading.

  2. April,

I love your puppet idea! Just yesterday I was reading a story to the kids, and I used a puppet and the LOVED it! They all become so much more interested whenever there isn't just that "boring" text in front of them. That will definately make reading fun for them. And your flashlight and popcorn idea is awesome!!!! I wonder what the rules are now as far as food and what not, but I know that even gets me excited to read! You have a lot of fantastic ideas. Good job =]
